A Dog’s Example

September 20, 2026
As followers of Jesus, we are called to reflect God’s loving kindness, mercy, and grace to the world around us. We carry a distinct purpose: to live as salt and light and represent the King of Kings in our everyday lives. When we step out as ambassadors for Christ, our daily interactions become opportunities to share his hope with others. Discover how walking in your identity as God’s representative can transform your relationships and empower you to share the gospel with confidence.

REPRESENTING THE KING

Passage: 2 Corinthians 5:17–21 · Translation: ESV

DAY 1 Called as Ambassadors

Remember:

We are called to be light and salt, representing the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and our Savior Jesus Christ as his ambassadors.

Read:

2 Corinthians 5:20

Dig Deeper:

An ambassador in the ancient world never spoke on their own authority. They carried the full authority, message, and character of the sovereign who sent them. Paul chooses this specific word to remind us that our life is no longer about self-representation. We represent a heavenly kingdom while living in an earthly realm.

Reflect:

Our actions, speech, and tone communicate something about the King we represent. When people interact with you, do they glimpse the grace and truth of Jesus?

Pray:

Lord Jesus, thank you for trusting me to represent your kingdom. Give me the courage and wisdom to speak and act in a way that accurately reflects your character today. Amen.

DAY 2 Reflectors of His Goodness

Remember:

We are a reflector reflecting God's goodness, God's loving kindness, his mercy and grace.

Read:

Exodus 34:6–7

Dig Deeper:

A mirror has no light source of its own; it simply reflects the light shining directly upon it. When Moses asked to see God's glory, the Lord revealed himself through his character: merciful, gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. As believers, we do not produce righteousness from our own strength; we reflect the character of God as we abide in him.

Reflect:

Where in your life is it most difficult to display God's mercy and patience toward others?

Pray:

Father, turn my heart fully toward you so I can reflect your loving kindness to those around me, especially when it is difficult. Amen.

DAY 3 Salt and Light in Everyday Life

Remember:

That's who we are, and that's what we're called to do. We're called to be light and salt.

Read:

Matthew 5:13–16

Dig Deeper:

Jesus uses two quiet yet pervasive elements to describe our function in the world. Salt acts as a preservative and adds flavor, while light dispels darkness. Neither salt nor light exists for itself; their value is realized in how they impact their surrounding environment. Being salt and light means actively engaging the world around us with truth and compassionate service.

Reflect:

How can you intentionally bring the "flavor" of God's grace into your workplace, school, or home this week?

Pray:

Jesus, help me not to hide the light you have placed inside me. Show me practical ways to bring your peace and truth into dark or difficult places. Amen.

DAY 4 Boldness to Speak

Remember:

Speak Jesus next Sunday to those people, to anybody that'll listen.

Read:

Acts 4:29–31

Dig Deeper:

The early church faced real pressure to stay silent about Jesus. Yet, when they gathered to pray, they did not ask for the removal of hardship. Instead, they prayed for boldness to speak God's word faithfully. God answered by filling them with the Holy Spirit. Sharing Jesus requires relying on the Holy Spirit rather than relying on our own perfection or eloquence.

Reflect:

Who in your life needs to hear about the hope of Jesus, and what holds you back from speaking to them?

Pray:

Holy Spirit, give me holy boldness to speak the name of Jesus with wisdom, kindness, and love to those who are willing to listen. Amen.

DAY 5 A Foundation of Repentance and Faith

Remember the Week

We are ambassadorial reflectors of God's grace, called to shine as light in a dark world. Yet our witness flows directly from our own decision to repent, yield to Jesus as Master, and daily rely on his salvation.

The Big Idea, Restated

Effective witness flows from a heart surrendered to the lordship of Jesus Christ.

One Integrating Question

In what area of your life is Jesus asking for deeper surrender so his light can shine more brightly through you?

Pray

Lord Jesus, I repent of my self-reliance and yield to you as my Savior and Master. Use my life as a living witness of your mercy from this day forward. Amen.
