Child Safety + Abuse Prevention

At Sonrise Christian Church, the safety and wellbeing of your children is one of our highest priorities.

We are dedicated to creating a safe, secure, nurturing environment where kids can grow in their faith and feel genuinely loved and cared for.

Committed to a Safe Environment

Sonrise maintains a zero-tolerance policy for abuse or neglect of any kind. Every staff member and volunteer is expected to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of every child at all times. If any adult observes suspicious behavior, policy violations, or signs of neglect or abuse (whether physical, emotional, or sexual), they are required to report it immediately.

Examples of reportable concerns include:

  • Inappropriate or concerning interactions with children
  • Lack of supervision or disregard for safety procedures
  • Any behavior that doesn’t reflect Christlike care for children

Volunteer Screening and Confidentiality

We take great care in ensuring those who serve with children uphold the values and integrity of our church and the Body of Christ. All of our Sonrise Kids volunteers go through a comprehensive screening process that includes:

  • Attending Sonrise for at least six months before serving
  • A criminal background check
  • Personal interviews and reference checks

When concerns are reported, our response is handled with the utmost care and discretion. We work on a strict need-to-know basis to respect the privacy of all individuals involved.

Our goal is always to respond wisely, protect the vulnerable, and walk alongside families with compassion and grace.

See Something? Say Something!

As followers of Christ, we believe it’s our God-given responsibility to speak up if we witness or suspect abuse or inappropriate behavior.

If you have concerns, we encourage you to take action.

Our response team will carefully review each report and take the appropriate next steps which may include contacting law enforcement or other protective services, offering support to families, and taking immediate measures to protect children.

Utah Department of Child and Family Services

Utah law requires everyone to report suspected Child abuse or neglect immediately.

If you believe your child is being harmed, it is your legal duty to make a report. You can do this by calling the Utah Child Abuse Hotline at 1.855.323.3237 or by submitting a report online

When reporting, include as much detail as possible such as the child’s name, age, location, suspected abuse details, and names of involved individuals.

You may report anonymously, and those who report in good faith are protected by law. Reports must be made directly to Child and Family Services or law enforcement.
